Should I have bet stronger?

I don't really ever play tournaments, so I don't know if this is standrd or what.
Poker Stars, $4 + $0.40 NL Hold'em Tournament, 10/20 Blinds, 8 Players
LeggoPoker Hand History Converter

MP2: 1,500
CO: 1,450
BTN: 1,740
SB: 1,480
Hero (BB): 1,500
UTG: 1,500
UTG+1: 1,420
MP1: 1,500

Pre-Flop: (30) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (BB)
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls 20, 2 folds, CO calls 20, BTN calls 20, SB calls 10, Hero checks

Flop: (100) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets 60, UTG+1 folds, CO calls 60, 2 folds

Turn: (220) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
Hero bets 100, CO calls 100

River: (420) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
Hero checks, CO bets 400, Hero calls 400

Results: 1,220 Pot
CO showed Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (a straight, Eight to Queen) and WON 1,220 (+640 NET)
Hero mucked K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and LOST (-580 NET)
Should I have bet harder the whole way or was this just bound to happen?

I know usually showing results is taboo, but the results are the basis for my question.

Do you call the river here? Is there really any way to put him on the straight draw? I was thinking weaker nine the whole way.

Looking back, I should have bet the turn stronger, but as I said I though I was suckering along a weaker 9.

It's your hand and your question. Post whatever the hell you want.

I think the flop is fine, but I would bet more on the turn (180ish).

I probably would have paid him off on the river too. It's hard to come up with a straight or even a jack after all that.

So check for pot control on the turn?
I wasn't trying to come in here with an "OMG I GOT BAD BEATED STORY!!" I was just wodnering how I could have played it better.

I don't think betting the pot on the turn is going to change anything.

There is a flaw in your logic on the river. You have to go in with a plan. If you intend to check/call, obviously you think you have the best hand here, so you might as well bet it out. If you don't think you have the best hand and you want the CO to prove it by betting, then check/fold.

"What are you trying to do here?"

flop is fine..i'd bet ~160ish on the turn...then maybe check/call the river to induce a bluff...or possibly make a blocking bet...not sure which is better
