nl25 reraised pot with difficult (?) decision on the flop

sb(16/11.6/3): solid tag, has been 3 betting me quite often. one hand he 3bet me with 88 and shoved on the flop with an oesd plus overpair and sucked out on my set

utg (72/9/0.4): big fish

i have been playing pretty laggish around 30/25/3

Button ($24.90)
SB ($58.55)
BB ($33.60)
UTG ($19.40)
Hero ($34.10)
CO ($26.10)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.25, Hero raises to $1.25, 2 folds, SB raises to $4.35, 1 fold, UTG calls $4, Hero calls $3.

Flop: ($13.10) 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets $9, UTG folds, Hero folds?

Final Pot: $13.10

is my call preflop ok here? on the flop i don't see much hands i can beat since he bet into 2 opponents and the fish is likely to call his bet with somewhat marginal hands. easy fold ?

I fold pre flop from you position. I call if I opened the BTN or CO. If youre going to fold this flop against a light 3 bettor, then just fold pre flop.

I hate the call pre-flop as your implied odds for a set here suck so if you aren't willing to felt 88 as an overpair, fold preflop.

Felting 88 as an OP is hideous if the pot is big. What hands do we expect to beat? Whiffed AK and er not much else.

We are looking to win some small pots sometimes with 88 UI in hands that get to SD and also to win the pot a chunk of times with a flop CB that doens't get called on favourable flops.

We also want to net mininmum 12x our preflop call for the times we flop a set - so there is $10 in the pot preflop when we need to call the 3bet and if we flop the set and fail to win a further $20 (not counting the chips we put in postflop) we lost money.

IF the SB re-raiser is tight preflop so that his 3bet means he has AA/KK here and little else THEN the preflop call is goot cos when we do hit the set we gets paid.

As played fold the flop - SB is telling us he has an OP and if he has an OP it's better than ours and we are approximately a 92% underdog with 2 cards to come.

IF SB is the type to 3bet AK preflop and then make a CB with it everytime he gets AK and sometimes AQs or even AQo as well then the play is to push cos he'l have missed OC's more often than he has 99+ - basically you need a read to continue and if you don't got one just fold.

so, why did you call the flop if you are now willing to fold on a 7 High board?

Fold preflop, fold the flop.
