Response from Senator Richard Lugar, R-IN

This was in response to the latest PPA letter TE worked up on the legislation forum:

Dear Mr. IndyFish:

Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts about Internet gambling.

In 2006, Congress voted to prohibit online gambling businesses from accepting credit card payments or electronic transfers for the purpose of betting.

Subsequently, legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives, H.R. 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, to create a federal licensing framework for Internet gambling activities. This legislation has been referred to both the House Financial Services Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Should this legislation be discussed in the Senate, I will keep your thoughts in mind.

Thank you, again, for contacting me.

Signed Richard G. Lugar

Obviously a form letter, but I must admit that I'm impressed by the detailed knowledge he has of the subject. This letter was sort of a "bonus" as my main concern was writing to my Congressman. The PPA was nice enough to send it to the Senators as well.

Our Congressmen are filling us with knowledge everyday. Maybe we should add these obscure facts to Wikipedia.

When they say they will keep your thoughts in mind, they mean they are against you.

I was actually thinking along these lines. Perhaps we should start editing more Wikipedia articles.
