I think it's okay to get it in. I'd probably 3-bet him on the flop though with an OESD+FD.

Yes it is fine, on the flop I might be pushing, if the pot was a little big I definately would be pushing. You probably just stacked 55 or 88, slight chance of losing to an overflush (since you posted the hand, I assume that is what he had), and possibly he had something like 8d7d or 6d7d.

i wouldnt push flop, as the only hands that will call are hands that have you dominated (sets), i would however repop it to $18 (and call a shove) or if he just calls, shove any turn.

edit: actually raise a bit more, pot.

3bet/push over raise. Your hand lives or dies with fold equity.

Board: 5d Jd 8c
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 40.236% 40.24% 00.00% 2390 0.00 { Td9d }
Hand 1: 59.764% 59.76% 00.00% 3550 0.00 { 88, 55 }

Our equity is decent against even a set.

The reason to 3-bet this flop is that you get villain to fold hands you're flipping with (Tp kind of hands) which is EV+ for you AND you get him to fold bigger flush draws. If he has a set, oh well, it's still 40/60. When played like this, you might get more money from mediocre hands but you're totally analed if he had a higher flush. Summa summarum, you get to fold a lot of hands that villain shouldn't fold and even if called you're a slight dog at worst when you 3-bet on the flop. Be sure to bet big enough (20+) too, you want FE.

Definitely bet/3bet preflop and just shove any turn. Your equity is huge here and the bet/3bet line on a drawy board looks ridiculous strong combined with a turn shove

This is spot on. Raising ~pot on flop and shoving turn sounds optimal to me.
