Really need some Bankroll advice....please help
 

I’ve been playing recreationally on-line for about two years now and have only ever enjoyed playing low-stakes MTT’s. I have had some success over this time both live and on-line. 4 cashes of over $1000 live and several of $500+ online. Baically, I think a lot about the game, I am well read and play really quite steadily and more skilfully than many of the others at my stakes.

The thing is I’ve always cashed any wins straight back out as I’m young and have always needed the money for other things – I’ve never been able to afford a bankroll. Whenever I’ve played I simply load up $20 or so, play and play for as long as my $20 lasts (If I cash I play again, often I won’t spend it all in a re-buy an so I can play again).

What’s the problem? I have $700 left from my last live cash and can afford for this to be my on-line bankroll. In 3 weeks time I can get back on stars (I gave myself a six month ban as I was spending too many evenings depositing $20 to play the $3r – a great way to busto).

I intended to use this $700 and start grinding the 4/180’s on Pokerstars. Last night, however, I won the $3r on Ladbrokes and won $825 (brag? – definitely!). So I now have a bankroll and also my $700 that I had saved.

My question is that I now have over $1500. Should I stick to original plan regarding 4/180’s or should I broaden my horizons? I basically want to be nitty with my bankroll and never have to reload again. I am capable of achieving this as I am a capable player.

How can I keep the roll safe whilst taking regular, achievable shots at growing it much further? And should I keep it at $1500 or should I just use the $800 I’ve won?

What level do you want to play? If you're ok in the 4/180's then yhe $800 bankroll is fine. If your looking to play in higher limits on a regular basis, go the $1500. Keep your average entry fee at /100 bankroll and you'll be fine, never to deposit again.

Any suggestions as to which Stars I can play with this BR?

I prefer non-turbo, and I'm European so I'm 4 hours ahead of EST and can only play evenings and weekends.

Yeah I think the 100 bankroll rule is good... I'd say stay to your initial plan of the 4/180s. They're so soft and are very easy to beat. Just b/c you won a tourney doesnt mean you should automatically go up in limits... i've made that mistake too many times. Take the win as a bonus and nothing more. If you want to take some shots at a bigger prize pool, stars' has alot of $5-$10 tourneys with guaranteed prize pools of $5000-$25,000. With $1500 you definitely have 100 tourney buy ins.

4/180s four at a time is the correct answer.

If you are hopeless at BR management (like me) but are confident that you can beat the games, chuck in some 20/180s and the 20+r+a at 7.15. The 8.15 ten minute levels is good too.

I'd steer clear of the 10/180 turbos. This is where your edge is lowest IMO.

$5.50 5K guaranteed 3000 starting chips starts 5pm your time. Also now you have a br for the $3r starting at 6:15 your time...

Technically you can never beat the games if you have bad bankroll management.

20r is probably a little steep... I think umist would agree. We're trying to build a bankroll the right way.

First of all, to hell with the "I'll deposit $20 a little by little and play $3 and so forth" because that's just going to disrupt your pyschological game. Just put a chunk in and play off of that.

Secondly, are you really looking to BR build? Because, if you are, then Registrar's advice is correct. I would also recommend SNGs because they teach you good preflop play + I've found some ease in building a BR for them. MTTs aren't exactly great for "BR" building unless you are great - the swings suck and you wind up putting in several hours without that hourly profit necessary to build your BR. But, seems like you have a good grasp, so MTTs exclusively ftw maybe.
