open 88 on button, get 3bet

K gonna put this together from memory because the HH got eaten. Ive been at the table for a little over 1 orbit and everyone is fairly deep. Its 200NL.. I've raised my fair share of pots so far but havent showndown yet.

I've seen villain stack a guy already and on the river he bet enough to leave the other guy with $1 if he called. Villain had queens full, not sure if that matters.

K I have $225 and openraise red 88 on the button. sb folds, bb raises to $21. I call . BB has over $600

flop: 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($41)

bb bets $43, I call

turn 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($127)

bb goes all in and has me covered. Hero ? I have around ~$160 left

Alright, i know most will say fold without much thought but I considered calling because I thought my coldcall on flop should have scared him a bit but it didnt. theres no draws out there. Its not like I called with 56 or A5 or somethin. But he doesnt slow down at all.

Also the thing about him betting $88 with a full house on river against a guy who had $89 left and now shoving his $500 or whatever into the pot made me think it was possible this was weak compared to the other being strong. Is there any merit to this line of thinking?

edit: spelling

There may be a bit of merit to the second though, but he's probably not slowing down with KK+ here. Maybe even QQ+. And these are his most likely hands.

I think a large portion of the time you might be running into a hand like A4 or a boat. Especially if you said you've been pretty active for the only orbit at the table the BB might be willing to defend with A4.

Meh, if my image is still intact...I usually just fold pre. As played:

Edit: Nevermind...didn't see how small his 3-bet was. Calling is fine.

I agree he has a much wider range than most people are suggesting. But, why would he be trying to push me outta the hand so hard with a boat here? or A4?

When he raises to just 21, you've got implied odds to call for set value. That said, if he's really loose with his 3bets, you may actually be calling for value. The problem is you run into a flop like this and you're left flailing.

It's really tough to know what to do in these spots. If villain has AK, they're basically following through on any flop, so do you call and hope they give up on the turn? Doing that burns so much money vs overpairs, since ~1/4-1/3 of your stack is going in every time, only to have them shove the turn.

Eh, always a tough one =/
