2 Pair on a Scary Board...

Playing in a loose-aggressive 25/50 game in LA. A couple of decent players, several bad ones.

I raise K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] from UTG+2. Relatively tight player cold calls on my left, loose button calls, both blinds call. 5 to the flop.

Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I bet, tight player calls, button raises. Both blinds fold. I 3-bet, and both players call.

Turn: Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I...bet/call? bet/fold? check/call? And what is my plan for the river?

my gut reaction was to bet/call the turn, and then check/fold the river if you were raised on the turn and don't improve. and bet/fold the river if villains just call your turn bet.

but, on more thought i can't think of many hands that the tight player has that you aren't behind after the Q. a slowplayed set or flopped straight? or maybe he called your raise with T9 clubs? maybe AT? so I think check/calling the turn might be better. i think its close between the two.

I would go with the old advice to check hands which have outs. I'd check call. On the river, I'd check again unimproved and call a bet from the loose player, probably folding to a bet from the tight player, assuming tight means he wouldn't bet a worse hand than yours.

Haven't seen you in a while, hope all is well. The 25-50 stakes tell me why we haven't seen each other in a while.

I would say check-call the turn since you have the odds to draw to the boat. If it is the tight player doing the betting then fold river uninproved. If it is the loose player I probably call.

I would only bet the turn if I thought that I could get a better hand to fold but I don't see that happening here since it would be hard for either player to put you on a sraight based on your aggression on the flop and preflop raise.

Certainly check when it's your turn to act.

Check-fold turn. The tight guy to the left should scare you with this board. You're likely behind their range and your outs are likely tainted

Andy,

I think you're right. What I actually did was bet the turn, and the tight player raised. The loose player cursed the dealer and folded. I called, then check-folded the blank river.

I still do get to Commerce these days (going today in fact), but pretty much only on weekends. 25/50 is fun, though.
