Playback on one overcard

Villian is readless, only 30 hands or so. I like my flop and turn play but debated on c/f the river.

Full Tilt 0.50/1 Hold'em (5 handed) Full Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG raises, 3 folds, Hero calls.

Flop: (4.50 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (3.25 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, Hero raises, UTG calls.

River: (7.25 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

I think by waiting for the turn to checkraise, you're making sure, that he will usually only call down with hands that beat you. He only folds few better hands as well. He may fold 66-88 without a club, but that's about it, I think.

So I would have checkraised the flop instead, bet the turn and (on this particular board) c/f river.

Thought was to make my hand look stronger by c/r the turn....i was c/r the turn regardless once that flop hit.

Is your default to c/r on the flop here? My default was to c/r the turn once i saw what the flop brought.

Your hand looks stronger, so he only folds hands that you are already ahead of, but that's not all bad if he has 6 outs on the turn, which is likely. You'd check-raise the turn here if you thought he'd call down with A high or fold out a 6 outer. It's just cheaper to do it on the flop and the continue on the turn, which would have been great on this board because he would have folded his 6 outs most of the time.

you need a read to make this play at .5/1 because most tags will check behind overs on the turn.
