I have a major leak (probably more than one, but this I know)

Whenever an opponent leads into me on the turn or river when I am holding the 2nd nuts, I automatically assume that he/she has the nuts and I am behind.

Hand #1

Dealt to HERO [As Js]
UTG folds
UTG+1calls $0.50
EP raises $0.50 to $1
MP folds
MP folds
MP folds
HERO calls $1
SB folds
BB folds
UTG calls $0.50
*** FLOP *** [2s Qs 2h]
UTG checks
UTG+1 bets $0.50
HERO raises $0.50 to $1
UTG folds
UTG+1 raises $0.50 to $1.50
HERO raises $0.50 to $2
Betting is capped
UTG+1 calls $0.50
*** TURN *** [2s Qs 2h] [8s]
UTG+1 bets $1 <--------Now I am panicing--I think he must have QQ because why would he have led into me again on this board
HERO calls $1
*** RIVER *** [2s Qs 2h 8s] [Ts]
UTG+1 bets $1
HERO calls $1
*** SHOW DOWN ***
<font color="white">UTG+1 shows [Qd Ks] (a flush, King high)
HERO shows [As Js] (a flush, Ace high)
HERO collected $11.25 from pot </font>

There are 2 other hands in the last 2 sessions which are like this, whether they be straight possibilities, set over set... I panic when an ABC player leads in to me on the turn or river when I have the clear 2nd nuts.

Hm. I don't mind it against super passive players. But this guy is clearly aggro. I would put in at least one more raise, preferably on the turn. Call down if 3-bet.

You actually have the 8th nuts on the river, but who's counting :P.

I'm raising, and capping the turn. I'd be very surprised if he has a full house on this board. I think he shows up with a hand like A2, or Qx much more frequently. Reads would certainly help though.

BTW - don't show results, even in white. Skews people's opinions.

It's basically the 4th nuts. The only hands that can beat us are 88 QQ and 22. 22 is less likely.

I dunno, I think capping the turn is kind of bad because he has to have KTs or worse.

I don't play much online.....

Seems like you have to put in a raise somewhere, and the turn seems like the place to do it. With a hand that good, I'd raise the turn and go into call-down mode if he raises you back. Sometimes I raise the river instead of the turn, but that's probably bad.

I like to think of these situations in terms of "how many more bets do I want going in here". I think the answer is 3 in this case (it could be 4, but I really don't think it's 5 and it's certainly more than 2).

It is, and pointless.

Capping the flop is not a good move IMO.

When villain 3 bets you on the flop you can often narrow his range to QX,2X,QQ,KK,AA, and a flush draw.

Now given the pre flop action I think we can often remove KK and AA, even QQ 3 bets here most of the time.

So if on the flop we discount AA,KK and QQ, we are left with Qx,2x and maybe a lesser flush draw.

Raise the turn and re-evaluate. If you are called feel safe betting/raising the river.
If you are 3 bet, call and call river.

I also have M.U.B.S, I am working on eradicating this.

what were your reads before the hand started that made you conclude that:

cold calling preflop was the right play (it rarely is in online TAG games)?

raising the flop was the right play?

I agree CCing PF is pretty bad, but you don't like the flop raise? I certainly do.

Maybe the Borg 20 games are getting to me and I'm a chip spaz, but we have a ton of equity here and can often find ourselves to be ahead (probably not after the 3-bet though.)

For the love of Jesus, Mary and all things holy, raise the turn.

meh.

thats why I asked OP about his read. if UTG+1 only raises premium preflop (particularly because the raise was in EP) i dont really think we have much +EV, especialy when you throw hands like AQ, QQ into the equation. not to mention that we'd rather keep UTG in the hand IMO.

if UTG+1 is very aggressive preflop then the flop raise becomes more lucrative. but then, of course, hero should have 3 bet PF.

btw, OP, if villain smooth called your flop raise, I assume you are betting any turn card, correct?
