users posting ban notes

here

wtf?

this seems wrong to me

also, I don't really feel comfortable having my ban notes which are basically a note to the user, mat and ryan being aired in ATF.

do we have a policy towards this?

i have always thought that the user notes were a way to tell the user what he is being banned for, nothing more. if that's the case i don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to post them. maybe just use that box for a simple reason for the ban, and then go into more detail in the actual "user notes"

did someone find a backdoor that allows them to search for "we cannot proceed"? I think thats what that thread is implying but I couldn't duplicate the results.

I also tried Google

Gildwulf,

I think this is mostly your fault for not realizing that those notices are going to be public.

I'm not really sure this is a bad thing at all.

they're basically a last pm to the user explaining why they are being permabanned, no? The only difference is that the admins are being cc'ed on it.

posting pms from mods is a no-no, correct?

shouldn't the same logic hold?

Also, not sure why these things would be expected to or should go public.

Gild,

1- posting a PM is gauche, but I'm not sure it's wrong. I think there's plenty of circumstances where it's ok to delete a posted PM, but I wouldn't just say it's wrong on face vaule.

2- I wouldn't call this a PM in the least.

I assume anything I send to a poster can and will be posted.

Gild - I'm not sure why you don't expect this to go public. Its the users revolting against authority, thats kind of par for the course with BBV isnt it?

I thought the reds made it clear users aren't supposed to post pms from mods
