AJ - Call/Fold?

This next hand is a Classic example of what I think is a key hand for me in a MTT. My image should be tight aggressive - the table has seen me open/cbet/win and open/fold to reraises pre or showdown winners with solid hands. Villain in this hand is average. I'm opening a little looser since we're on the bubble (30 or so till the money)

going broke because I don't see him on qq+ and want to see if he hits his diamond. 77 or TT oh well I guess, he should have raised either of them given position.

Yeah, this is one of those stand up, kick the chair, pace in a circle for a couple seconds, sit back down, and click "call" hands.

Why are u betting 1/2 pot on this flop, if you're not trying to induce a raise? Bet at least 4800 and call a shove.

Re: AJ - Call/Fold?

Definitely a tough decision because you just see so often people shoving when they hit top pair in this situation and not wanting anymore cards to come. So it's between top pair, in which case you have him beat, a flush draw, and two pair. Sure, he could have a set, but it seems unlikely. I think you lead most situations, so a call is probably in order. Though since you classify the player as "average" that tempts me toward folding. If this were a solid player, I'd call believing it's a bet to get me out of the pot.

[x] Should've bet closer to pot on that drawy flop

[x] We only need ~35% equity to call
[x] There's a huge number of semibluffs which you're ahead of in his range (diamonds, pairs, gutshots, OES, some combination of that lot)
[x] There's not many hands in his range that are ahead of TPTK (77,JT, maybe TT,JJ,J7,89)
[x]+[x]+[x] ==> calling is definitely +EV

Re: AJ - Call/Fold?

why do you assume you are behind his range? You made a basic c bet into a large pot and he will try this steal pretty wide...cal here and don't stress the outcome...

p.s. if you aren't getting it in here with this flop and these blinds why are you raising AJ?
