SSHE Book question, protecting your hand
 

Ok so the first situation which sklanksy poses in protecting your hand section is w 78s in the BB with a 10 7 5 board where the CO is the raiser and you have good relative position on the raiser.

I understand why sklansky says to raise here bc you have the opp to cut the field and increase your odds of winning. My question is how do you continue in this hand?

Let's say that you raise everyone folds and the or bettor calls. What do you on a blank turn? Bet or check call?

What if you raise and everyone calls and the turn is a brick?

What if you turn the 8c completing the 3flush and making a couple of straights?

How about any other 8 and you face a raise when you bet out the turn?

I know a lot these would be read dependant but lets say this is your first hand at the table so do this all ABC.

If it's my first hand, I usually play more passively than I would a couple of hours later because I am mainly interested in getting people to show down their hands so I can form reads.

I tend to prefer having a glimmer of how my opponents might react before I make that sort of raise.

First that is in the playing large pot section not protecting your hand. The point was stated at the end which is to improve your chances of winning when the pot is big and you have a marginal hand. How you play depends how you end up but you are trying to stay in the pot as long as possible profitably. In these games the big pots are the whole pay check so it is about not folding and using odds.
