Saw both Bill Clinton and Jonathan Papelbon up close TR (w/ pics)
 

So last weekend my friend Phil used his union connections to get the three of us into some political rally for Niki Tsongas, candidate for the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts and widow to former Senator and Presidential Candidate Paul Tsongas. We decided it would be a good idea to bring ‘Road Sodas’ which consisted of Coke bottles with either Jim Beam or Bacardi added. As we entered the Lowell Memorial Auditorium a gentleman informed us that no food or drink was allowed and tried to take our drinks away. Rick walked in and gave his soda up while Phil and I decided to go back outside and work on our drinks. Phil proceeded to chug his which was quite impressive considering there was a sizeable amount of whiskey in his drink. I took a few more swigs and then stashed the remainder of my drink on a nearby artillery piece.

We met up with Rick and moved into the auditorium to take our seats.

We had to watch a bunch of crap before they got to some of the main speakers including The Smithereens, an A Capella group from Smith College of varying degrees of hotness,

(At one point during a break I spoke to them personally and requested Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" which was met with polite but negative reactions whcih prompted me to go into my own rendition.)

Some lame State Senator who had to turn around when congratulating the The Billerica Firemen Color Guard Guard to see if they were military or firemen, The democratic candidates who lost in the primary, one of whom was so short we named him Mickey Rooney,

, and finally Gov. Deval Patrick, who I’ve seen speak before and is usually lame. During all this downtime Phil spotted some union guy he knows from across the auditorium and we decided to keep calling his cell phone and then hanging up when he picked up, which was a little childish but still entertaining, especially to Phil who was now completely inebriated after chugging so much whiskey so quickly.

We had also learned that the man who had taken away Rick’s soda had just placed it under a table in the lobby. So during the intermission Phil ran a distraction on some guy sitting at the table while I dropped my phone near the table and retrieved the bottle while I picked up my phone. We then hid in two adjoining bathroom stalls and got our drink on while passing the bottle back and forth over the divider.

After the break Patrick introduced both Niki Tsongas and Bill Clinton. (Phil stated he would bang Niki)

Clinton was supposed to be there earlier but his jet had a mechanical problem so he had to take a limousine from New York. Niki Tsongas made some bad joke about how Bill should be in favor of putting a woman in a position of power and Clinton went into this overdramatic stage laugh which included throwing his head back and exaggerated arm gestures.

Clinton went on to speak for a while about global warming and Iraq and other boring stuff. Afterwards Phil managed to maneuver through the crowds and get a handshake. We also managed to catch Bill on the way out through the hallway and get a picture in the crowds.

Afterwards I retrieved my soda from the cannon and we went to some crappy Lowell dive bar to eat nachos, and onion rings. I also got a sausage and meatball calzone which was delicious.

TR is lacking in dance content, but there is perfect amount of calzone content and pervish pics.

The next day I went with Phil for a ride along in his work van. I continued to drink road sodas and periodically eat my leftover calzone while he did a few jobs. Fast forward to that afternoon when we drove to Boston to go to Rally Monday (some weird city/mlb sponsored baseball playoffs celebration). Phil managed to find the one spot bordering the common which is lacking a parking meter for some reason. We made some more road sodas and were on our way.

By the time we got there the plaza was packed and Tina Cervaisio was interviewing some of the Boston Bullpen as well as star rookie 4th outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.

Somebody was handing out a lot of those “K” signs which had a big strikeout K on one side and various slogans on the other side such as “Papi Power” or “Manny being Manny.”
Well Phil got one that said “It’s Tito’s October” referring to manager Terry Francona. We then realized that if we cut out the “o’s” it would say “It’s Tit s October.” Which is hilarious.

Many other people thought so too and I must have had my picture (or my sign’s picture) taken more times than anytime before in my life. I also got Wally the mascot to sign it.

During the rally the Cowsill’s played a song (they were the inspiration for the Partridge family), Peter Tork of the Monkee’s performed a bunch of Beatles songs (kind of pathetic). Some annoying country guy (Ryan Reynolds) played some “Cowboy Up” song which was supposedly the inspiration for Kevin Millar’s motto in 2003., and then the Dropkick Murphy’s delivered a terrific set.

Afterward we continued to raise our Tit’s sign which was still very popular, and we also found a few shoes which got lost in crowd in front of the stage. We managed to find the match of one of our black shoes in a very Cinderella like manner and returned it to him. Then we were left with a pair of size 10 White Phat Pharm shoes that we couldn’t find an owner of. On our walk back to our car Phil had tied the shoes together and was trying to throw them over a street sign when we found some college age kid that expressed interest and who also happened to wear a size 10. We decided to give him the shoes instead and then drove home and watched the Pats win on Monday Night Football.
