Now compare that with the range of Ax hands he can have.

I didn't see an actual question in the OP, but I don't like the double barrel unless you have a specific read that it will work enough of the time to be profitable. Trying to control the hand out of position in a blind battle can cost you lots of money, as it looks like it did here. Firing a third barrel would probably just be further spew, as the board was not particularly drawy and you're not likely to fold anything out, especially Ax, which is his likely holding at this point.
