Bad Commercial: Full Tilt one with Jesus

When I download the WSOP episodes, some FT commercials are added in. One commercial I particularly don't like is the Chris Ferguson one, where he sets a trap against an opponent where the opponent is drawing to a 9. The opponent then hits his 9 on the river. Ferguson then ends the commercial by saying, "sometimes making the right play isn't enough; but there's always another hand."

I personally think that poker marketing should appeal to new players; the casual players. It is fish and neewbies that keep the game thriving. The poker economy is made healthier by these casual players who don't understand the game, and think it is about having fun, and taking crazy gambles.

By presenting a commercial where the protagonist gets drawn out, I think that FT is presenting an unappealing side of poker, that won't appeal to rookies. I think to attract the fish and the rookies, poker has to be presented as fun, wild and crazy. It has to be a good time, and make you feel good. Getting drawn out makes you feel sad. I think this commercial does nothing to attract players.

If the commercial showed the fun side of sucking out on someone, or if the commercial was about outdrawing a name pro, and winning a big pot off of him, that would present a much better image for attracting new players.

Not if they think that there are not a lot of "new" players out there and are focusing on making redeposit previous player who went broke. Then this ad would be good as it shows that good players also take bad beats.

Good point Seb86. I guess this could appeal to the 'went bust' demographic. I just think that Full Tilt needs to promote a more fun image for fish/gamblers. I really enjoyed the entertainment value of the Cunningham/Matusow commercial.

Its just that some of these commercial empahsizing strategy like the Hansen-multipersonalities, or Ivey-million thoughts in a second, commercials appeal to people who already understand the game, and are already playing. People who are good, winning players don't need to be advertised to. Those players will be around.

Poker needs that constant influx of fish, cause if there are no fish, and everyone is getting better, than all we have is good/great players losing to the rake. That is all hypothetical and theory of course, but I'm just saying, lack of newbies hurts the game.

Why should Full Tilt care about catering to the sharks? I'm sure all online casinos would prefer to have no sharks at all if they could help it, the fish would win more often and come back for more. There isn't even a selfish motive, since most FT pros are the live ones rather than the sharks.

I miss the "Bluffed by 7-2" commercial that he was in. That hasn't aired in eons.

That one was pretty amazing.

You guys are missing the point. Most fish don't think they are bad players and probably don't realize that they are not capable of winning longterm.

I think the commercial is quite effective because it sticks in a person's head and gets the full tilt brand name out there.

The first part of your post is completely true. Most people that play, especially rookies, don't have a realistic view of the game and think they are winners or better than they are.

While the Jesus commercial does get the FT name out there, I think there are so many more appealing situations to put in a commercial than being drawn out against. That is the kind of situation that we all have to deal with, but it definitely isn't something that would make us want to go out and play.

The only reasoning I could have for it would be to soften the frustration of online players. It sort of shows, "this happens to pros too. Just handle it with patience and class like Jesus."

As was hinted at, the OP seeing it wrong The commercial is showing it takes skill and you should come play on Full Tilt and be the smart guy! And if you lose, it must have been bad luck because, of course, you're smart!

They should of had him throwing a card into the other players throat at the end.

If I have to see him chop one more banana...
