Three scenarios are offered up.

2. Moscow or Tehran has been tipped off that a US or Israeli attack is imminent on the Bushehr plant and Iran’s other nuclear installations and acted to whip Russian personnel out of harm’s way.

3. Moscow has learned that an Iranian pre-emptive attack is imminent against American targets in Iraq and the Persian Gulf and/or Israel.

Amid all the fearmongering, this does raise an eyebrow. Maybe DEBKA is in on the conspiracy to sell this war.

Still, the question remains that if this is an omen of things to come, how come the Soviet agency helping build the plant is in on it? It is a little crazy that the godless communists and the extremist religious fanatics are bedfellows. I wonder if those engineers were North Korean if they would have still left?

I no balls Bush to bomb the facilities when Putin is in town, though.

I'm going with #2. Most likely it would be the US tipping off Moscow to avoid having them directly involved from the outset.
