I like how you played it.

If the turn was offsuit I'd tend to fold against an unknown.

Re: Protect middlepair & fd

b/c it makes you hard to play against when you liberally threetbet the turn, b/c eventually they start playing back more , and i can capitalize on that.

UGH! never 3bet this turn unless you would call a river bet unimproved!!! Your turn 3bet becomes a free showdown raise unless you improve... you arent folding any better hands out here, and i cannot imagine him calling you with a worse hand. I guess maybe the Ten could fold out, but i think for him to c/r you on turn he has a king or better. you played it fine... fold turn without FD.

i don't agree, b/c he will view you as a different type of player after he sees you do this

But won't he view you as the type of player you are?

This is a bad spot to 3bet semi bluff. You showed strength preflop, he c/c flop c/r turn meaning he's not folding. You cannot justify this with metagame benefits.

I would just call preflop and raise the flop.

If i see that you're capable of b3b here with 3rd pair and a draw, then you're just going to get owned. I can cap the turn and b/f rivers against you with lesser strength hands. I can cap the turn and then check unfavorable rivers. Additionally, since I am not folding my hand with the c/c c/r line, you are simply putting too many bets into the pot without enough equity. Please show me how 3betting this turn will be profitable in the future (since clearly it isnt profitable here)... For example, I will show how much you lose by 3betting here. Assume you have 11 outs (sometimes you will have up to 15, sometimes as few as 7 in situations such as these depending on if i have just the king, or have AK, or have a set, etc)... you're a 3:1 dog here. By just 3betting you cost yourself .75BB on the turn. If you get to the river and improve to the winner, then you get 1 extra bet in, which occurs 25% of the time, so you make another .25BB. net of .5BB loss. If you get to the winner and arent good (if lucky) you can check behind and not lose any more bets. If you correctly fold to river donks then you've lost .5BB in this hand. I dont think you can show .5BB worth of gain meta-game wise often enough to continually be 3betting this turn...
