2008 WSOP schedule??
 

Does anyone know when the 2008 WSOP starts??? Or the dates of any of the events? The reason im anxious to know is that I turn 21 on July 19th and was curious if I would be able to play in any events next year.

They haven't released it yet, but if I had to guess I would say that you are going to be out of luck...

Harrah's hasn't announced the 2008 WSOP schedule yet, but you can give up on playing in 2008. In 2007, the final table of the Main Event was July 17th, and Jeffrey Pollack is on the record saying that the WSOP will be moved *earlier* in the calendar, toward it's traditional start in the spring.

A spring WSOP would allow ESPN to have their episodes ready to air in the summer, which they prefer because major sports don't have much going on in the summer. The WSOP episodes televised over the past month have been fighting for time and attention with Major League Baseball's pennant race and football season -- a losing battle.

My guess is that the WSOP will move up about a month (starting in early May, 2008), and then into April in 2009. I also think the length of the WSOP (just under 7 weeks) will stay the same. (I'd love for it to be a little shorter, but I doubt it will happen.)

We won't know anything for sure until Harrah's announces the schedule.

Keep in mind that while you might not be able to play in the WSOP in vegas in 2008, it's a pretty safe bet that they will most likely continue the tradition of the WSOPCE.

Normally that kicks off in Tunica around August, so you'll be of age then.

FWIW, there are loads of tournaments, including WPT events that happen in Vegas year round, that you can play in once you turn 21.

You might also want to look into some of the WPT events back east, as some of them you only have to be 18 or 19 in order to play in them (I think those are Turning stone, and Foxwoods).

My guess would be that the main event is never going to get earlier than late May, because in late May, there's a lot of college kids who are on break, have seen poker on TV, and say "Let's go to Vegas and win the World Series".

That's actually an interesting theory that I haven't thought about.
