New Orleans Trip - Restaurant Recommendations?

Will be staying near the French Quarter a few days before Thanksgiving so I figure the city will be pretty bare.

For those who've been, dining recommendations would be highly appreciated. Particularly things unique to the city (cajun, gumbo, etc.)

Tourist standards:
Emeril's
K-Paul's
Commander's Palace

Down home goodness:
Dick & Jenny's
Jacque-Imo's
Mat & Naddie's

Po' Boy Fantasticness:
Domilise's
Parasol's

Great Happy Hour:
The Columns Hotel

Home of the Stuffed Deep-Fried Burger:
Tucker's Tavern

Good 24 hour drunk food (and drink):
St. Charles Tavern

These just a few off the top of my head.

For oysters, go to Acme. If the line is long, head across the street to Felix's. Stay and have crawfish, too.

For fine dining, I can personally recommend Dominique's, Peristyle, and Bayona.

It is mandatory that you get beignets one morning at Cafe du Monde.

I was here last weekend. I had a nice day where I ate at Mother's (Ferti and Jumbalaya) followed by a walk to Cafe Du Munde to get a dozen Beniets (8 bucks total) for the drive back to Virginia. I recommend both places.

Have fun!

Commanders Palace sucked. There was a place that was pretty well known for brunch that served a flaming banana dish, but i forgot the name of the dish and the restaurant-if anyone remembers, pipe up. Also, all the locals swore by popeyes dirty rice.....I didn't see the attraction FWIW. Banana place mighta been Brennan's(not sure).

I think Emeril's in New Orleans is over-rated too unless you simply are dying to go to one.
It's really more of the touristy place to go I thought. He has emeril's restaurants in other cities too.

Ate at Emeril's last time I was there. The food was good, the portions large.

There are many places in New Orleans as good or better.

But since it isn't over-priced, or excessively crowded, I find it tough to say over-rated.

Eating there is not a mistake. But it is not a must-do, either.
