Or maybe you could use something like an instant messaging program so he could be downloading the file while you are uploading it to him.

Also realize that this upload will take an extremely long time if your upload speed is slow, and if your upload gets interrupted then its probably going to be pretty bad.

Using WinRAR you can split the 850mb file into five smaller ones and upload them one at a time that way to various sites (rapidshare, sendspace, megaupload, etc).

I'm pretty sure you can also send any size file over AIM, mIRC, etc.

If you use (m)IRC or AIM to do this and you're behind a router, make sure you have the correct ports forwarded to ensure a fast transfer (else it could take ages).

A .Mac account gives you 10Gig of storage space and like 25Gig of transfer a month for 100 bucks a year.

Or create a dummy G-mail account, upload it there and give him the password.

Set up a small ftp server on your machine. Give him your IP address and have him get the file directly from you with any ftp client.

I agree with the FTP idea as it would be the least time consuming to set up and also there is the ability to resume and interrupted transfer.

If you want a protocol to transfer files, I'd like to suggest ... ftp.
