Cross Booking and Swapping
 

I'm not sure if this is right forum, but I figured that you guys would know the best.

I play mostly cash (2/4 mainly) and am getting into tournaments more now than ever. I constantly here about swapping and cross booking. I understand swapping, it's pretty simple. Can you guys explain the differences between the two and the advantages please? thanks in advance.

Crossbooking is agreeing to match some % of an opponent's winnings, so it is the inverse of swapping. If you swap 10% with someone, you have 90% of your action and 10% of his (and vice versa). If you crossbook 10%, you have 110% of your action (if you win you win your prize + 10%) and -10% of your opponents' action.

if you cross book 10% with someone, you would owe them 10% of their winnings and vice versa?

Swapping you are giving a % of your winnings to someone in exchange for a % of their winnings.

Cross booking is matching X% of what the other guy cashed for, in exchange for him matching X% of what you cash for.

edit:

cross booking would increase variance so maybe if the tournament was a smaller buyin than you wanted, or if you think you play better than the person you're doing it with than you gain EV.

ya my bad read it wrong.
