static speakers?

When I turn on my speaker volume higher on my computer I hear a lot of static. I tested with some other speakers and it acts the same way so I know it's my soundcard. Do you guys have thoughts on a decent type of soundcard that won't have static like the one I got now?

What kind of monitor do you have (CRT or LCD) and what kind of sound card is it? Are you using decent wires to connect the speakers?

I have an LCD monitor, I'll have to check on the details of it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

If you aren't doing anything fancy with the sound card, I'd buy something cheap and forget about it. My sound card on my Media Center PC started doing the same thing and it was so bad that I didn't want to wait for a card to be shipped if I ordered it online. I went to Walmart and bought a cheap Creative surround sound card, installed it, problem solved. If I hadn't been in such a rush, I'd have ordered something cheap with good reviews off NewEgg. Any simple sound card should do the trick.

This. It's pretty hard to pay too little for a soundcard. If you really really care about gaming, maybe there's something to be said for a better card, but I'm honestly not convinced.
