Can anyone help me??!?!?! hard drive filling up constantly
 

hello i'm on windows Xp and my hard drive recently filled up overnight with no major downloads made, also when i delete something to free up space it has little to no effect and just fills up again? has anyone had this problem? I've run every concievable virus/spyarwe/registry cleaner everything and it has revelaled nothing. Any computer genius care to tackle this one? any help would be greatly appreciated

spybot,my antivirus that came with computer, a registry cleaner, adware removal, spacemonger to check my drive, but i recently tried spyhunter which told me i had a couple trojans. so i think they would be the cause (duh?) but the symptoms for those viruses doesn't really macth what is happening but i can't think of anything else.

how difficult is it to remove it myself? Am I better off just paying for someone to do?

are you running a fire wall? Use size explorer to see what is taking up the space.

all hard drives are effectively the same size - they all have only a few megabytes free

I've seen this many times and it almost always is some sort of logger application. What is usually happening is something is being logged and the log grows and grows untill your hard drive is out of space.

I doubt it is any sort of malware. When did the problem start occurring? Did you install any new software or make any windows settings changes around that time? Do you use peer guardian by chance? Sometimes its log has been known to grow to many gigs. Try to look through your files with nothing hidden and look for files that are abnormally large or seem to grow.

lol seriously tho, you'd want to get a list of open file handles every current process is running. some terms you can try to google

LSOF+windows
