SAT question

I am a high school senior and will be taking the SAT in Oct. for the 2nd time. Although I have a 4.0 GPA, I did not score too well the first time I took it and need to do better(1420 I think).

Someone told me a while ago that the questions you do not answer are omitted and do not count against you. IS THIS TURE OR NOT?!

Also, any tips on how to do well would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: SAT question

it's true. you lose 1/4 point for incorrect answers though. but dont worry all that is explained in detail by the proctor/directionms

Correct answer: +1 point
Unanswered question: 0 points

So guessing randomly won't help, but if you can narrow it down to 2-3 guessing is +EV.

Guessing without even looking is 0 ev, so do it if you want to gamb00l.

On the other hand, usually you can pick some clue or just have a subconscious feeling toward a certain answer. You'll almost certainly guess better than random in the long run, and it doesn't take up too much of your time, so my advice is gogogogo.

This is a 1420 on the new 2400 scale?

Not to be a dick, but how do you have a 4.0 gpa?

Re: SAT question

Even if you eliminate down to four, it's +EV to guess. I guessed on all of them.

These are 5 choice questions.

As a poker player you should understand there is a definite line to draw where it +EV.

Guessing randomly is EV=0. Eliminating just one answer results in a random guess having positive EV. You don't have to "narrow it down to 2 or 3" to gain by guessing. If you can estimate the probability of any one choice being the correct answer to be less than 20%, you gain by randomly guessing one of the other 4.

It being explained by the proctor wasn't sufficient, as the OP has taken the test once and clearly does not understand how it works.
