tipping cashiers in AC poker rooms

I know...another tipping thread. But this is a very specific question. I usually tip a buck or two to the cashier when I cash out, but I get a different yet consistent reaction depending on the casino. At the Borg, they set the dollar on the side, make no expression whatsoever, and don't say "thank you" or anything else. While at the Taj, Caesars, and I think others, they seem very appreciative. I've even seen some of them fish for a tip a little bit by asking how the evening was, if you won, etc. Is there a policy at the Borg that they don't personally keep the tips, but they don't refuse them either as not to offend? Maybe they go into a pool or something and are told not to thank people so that it's not encouraged. Anyone else notice this difference at the different AC casinos?

I never tip cashiers, and I find it a turn off at Caesars when they fish for it. In fact it took me a while to realize that they're actually fishing for a tip, because it never occurred to me that cashing out the chips is something that's a tip-worthy activity. It's doubly annoying when they fish for a tip when you're down for the session and a little steamed up.

At local small cardrooms I'll tip whatever is left that is not divisible by five to the cashier or split that with the last dealer as I get up.

In AC I rarely tip the cashier. Only occasionally at the Taj. The Borg I've never got even the slightest sign of gratitude and at Ceasars they spend so much time fishing for it I couldn't bear to do it.

I've never even HEARD of anybody tipping the cashiers at the Borg, and I've been going there regularly for almost 3 years now. People tip the chip runners regularly, but the cashiers? Never seen it.

There are chip runners at the Borgata? I have been there about 10 times and never seen any.

I tipped the cashiers anytime I turned a profit in a session at the Borg.

Hmm, interesting. I've never seen a tip jar, etc. or even seen another player give a tip. Maybe I'm just blind.

They are usually posted in the high limit area on busy days. I don't think that they work the main floor.

Usually there's a bunch of loose one dollar bills sitting on the side of each cashier at the Borg. That's where they put mine. The fact that they're not put in a jar or anything is part of what makes me think they're not supposed to really take them (and especially the fact that they never say thank you), and maybe they're told not refuse them either.

I was thinking about not tipping the Borg cashiers since they show no acknowledgement at all. I see others have seen the same thing I have regarding the Caesars cashiers fishing for tips (maybe this shouldn't be rewarded either). For the most part, the Taj seems to be the happy medium where they don't fish too much and will thank you for the tip. I don't play often enough at the other poker rooms to notice/remember what they do.

you also don't see a chip runner, floor, brush, or valet tip jar yet they are commonly tipped as well.
