help with Notebook + Monitor

Hey guys,

I have an Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A7640W notebook and I was thinking about buying a bigger monitor for it.

So far I have no idea which one, but I would like to know if i can buy any monitor for it, because the resolution on my laptop is only 1024 x 768 and my graphic card is a crappy onboard notebook one

Can the monitor have better resolution then? Can I hook up the monitor and use BOTH the new one and then notebook one for playing Poker? I dont really know the technical issues, though there is only a little blue plug on the other side that I consider being the monitor plug in

Help gladly appreciated

Re: help with Notebook + Monitor

I'm sure your laptop can run both screens at once, but the question is how high resolution the card can put out. Note that the bound probably isn't 1024x768; that's probably the restriction of the SCREEN.

Google your laptop and find what res it can output, and buy a screen that's that size.

Try finding the maximum resolution supported at the video card maker's website. I am in a similar situation and found out from Intel's website.

Ah i found it in the users manual of the notebook

max resolution is

1600 x 1200

But what about widescreen? What do I need to know about that?

So if I buy a laptop and want to use my dell2007fp TFT with it, do i have to make sure my laptop supports 1600x1200 so i can use it for poker?

yes. But if you buy a new laptop, you'll have a hard time finding one that doesn't support 1600x1200.

If your notebook doesn't support the 1600 X 1200 res or any res higher than that, is there any way around this problem? In other words, is there some way to use higher resolution on the external monitor without needing a better notebook? (sorry if the question sounds dumb, I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff)
