Gaming on a Macintosh?

Hey all,

Seriously considering a Macbook Pro for my next laptop but I'm scared it will put a serious crimp in my gaming. Can anyone give me the ins and outs on this ?

Thanks,
VR

If it's got the hardware inside that allows you to dual boot into windows then you'll be fine. Without that though you're really out of luck.

All of us hardcore gamers are unfortunately stuck running a Microsoft OS just so we can play the latest and greatest games. There are ways around it (get an Xbox, play the good games that are ported to the Mac or *nix etc), but you will never get the complete gamut of games available to you.

It is a real shame that more game development is not done with open source drivers and API's but that's the current state of the industry. I have numerous machines here all running some Linux distribution or other but sadly my top end machine always runs XP.

I think the bigger problem is the actual gaming power in the laptop... most laptops don't have powerhouse 3d GPUs, and the macbook pro is no exception.

Games won't look or run their best, that's for sure.

The laptop I have right now serves me pretty well. I think the Macbook Pro is pretty slick but I'm still up in the air as far as the limitations for a gamer like myself.

I'd say either play WoW, or just dual boot to XP and play games on that.

That, or get mame and some ROMs and play the arcade games.
