Playing the horse event at WSOP Europe tomorrow, need help.

Hey all, sorry to be asking a favor for my first post in this forum but I'm playing the $5k HORSE tomorrow and my worst game by far is Stud8. Basically if anyone could help me with:

General VPIP on 3rd/Trouble hands to avoid.
Defending the bring-in from a late position steal (3rd street hand quality, etc), this could also go for Stud high.
How to run good in Razz.

Any of these would be appreciated, and any other general tips you think would be helpful would be good. I have no clue how good an idea this is but I'm gonna go for it and hope tournament strategy prevails in the end.

Hey gobbo, welcome to the forum. Glad to see you taking an interest in HORSE, but you have your work cut out for you if you're trying to play an event tomorrow. Others should be able to give you some good advice for stud/8. All I could possibly say there is "play to scoop." As far as razz goes, check out the article in this month's 2p2 mag for some insight into razz tournament strategy, and PM me if you want more detailed advice.

I'm definitely not a fool at HORSE, I have a ton of LHE experience and I think I'm going to be very +EV in that and O8. Razz seems pretty easy and I have read a few books on stud hi but I have very little experience at Stud8. Wish me luck.

If you can read Ray Zee's book between now and tomorrow, do so. I'm guessing this isn't going to happen, so I'll see what I can do for you here. This is advice geared towards someone who has a tournament tomorrow and can afford to play really tight during the stud/8 round because he plays well the other 80% of the time. Please bear in mind that I had the largest margarita I have ever seen with supper tonight.

Trouble hands to avoid: pairs other than Ace-Ace-baby. Other big pairs are fine when the low hands bust out. If you can get KK heads-up with a low hand or a weaker high hand, do so. Otherwise, you're probably best off passing. Small pair/small kicker hands are OK, but they look better than they really are. Look to get in cheap and get hit hard.

You should probably avoid three-card Eights unless the other cards are an Ace and a wheel card. 876 is a decent starter, though.

You should probably avoid three-card flushes that don't have two cards Eight or lower. No more than one of your suit should be out unless you have a three-card low.

I wouldn't worry too much about bring-in "defense" with hands you wouldn't ordinarily play. Hopefully, it won't be a big factor, and the risk-to-reward ratio is often very unfavorable in such circumstances. If you're going to play in tough cash games, you need to worry about scenarios where you put in a lot of chips mostly hoping to get your money back. I wouldn't in this particular case.

FYI, Gobboboy took 16th of 105 in this event for 5,250 British Pounds. This kid is going to be a monster.

Good going Gobbo!
