I think this is fine against the particular villian you describe. He is loose and aggressive, so his range is pretty wide.

Applying some concepts from Professional No-Limit:

When you decided to make the raise pre-flop, you put in over 10% of your starting stack so you need to have a committment plan for the rest of the hand. The most likely hand for you to make (when you hit your hand) is TPTK. Against this opponent who is pretty loose, you might estimate that your target SPR for commitment would be around 5-6. On the flop you have an actual SPR of 2.4 which is well below your target. Therefore, if you do hit your hand you should go ahead and commit.

Against the second (hypothetical) opponent, you might estimate your target SPR to be much lower than against the loose opponent. For example, you might not expect to be ahead enough to be profitable with anything more than a target SPR of 2. In that case, it might be better to try to play for a small pot, since you won't likely be ahead enough when all the money goes in against this tight opponent if you hold TPTK.

Guys, sorry about this noob question. But what does 13/7/3 mean? And what is TPTK and SPR?

I only call the flop against 13/7/4 or whatever, but I'm going allin

i'm not folding TPTK here and a call passes the commitment threshold

however, the key is to make money when you're ahead

I either call his turn bet, or check through if he checks hoping to get some money from AQ or JJ on the river



Actually, I'd often just call behind verse a 13/7 preflop instead of raising no matter my two cards. I'm playing a TP type hand against a player who likely doesn't stack off light. I'm not trying to win the big pot. Just want th small one.
However, if you know the cutoff to raise alot (~20%) from late postion, I'd reraise hoping to take the pot down there.
I'm just trying to win small pots verse tight-agrressive opponents.
