Why is everyone making such a big deal over Phil\'s play this week

If you believe the announcers, they were about to crown him the second coming and soon-to-be-world-#1 who will knock Tiger off his pedestal.

What I saw was Phil playing one of the best rounds of his life (23 putts in 18 holes?) while Tiger struggled most of the day, couldn't putt his way out of a paper bag on most greens and still only lost by two strokes.

In addition, if Wetterich could have figured out his putter, he'd have beaten Phil easily.

Sure, it was great to watch, but one round means nothing in the greater scheme of things. Phil is going to have to do it another 5-10+ times before he proves anything.

It's easy. They need something to talk about other than Tiger. Wetterich and Oberholser aren't great storylines, and I suppose it's supposed to be "interesting" that the Fedex Cup lead changed hands.

Phil played extremely well, not otherworldly, and won a fairly prestigious tournament. He has done plenty already, but has time to continue to do more, especially in majors.

Put the shoe on the other foot for a second. If you were in the announcing booth, what would your angle be?
