AA vs. mongoose

Commerce 20/40. I am a new face here, and haven't sat down for long; my image is somewhat tight but not so aggressive. The rest of the table is playing pretty standard except for the villain. The villain is Mongoose, who cold calls pf w/ any two. I have only seen him reraise QQ pf so far. In my previous encounter w/ him, I opened from ep w/ AQo and flopped TPTK on a Q85 rainbow board. He called down every street and took down the pot w/ 85o.

This hand I open from UTG w/ A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Mongoose cold calls from MP and it is heads up. The flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Mongoose calls the flop pretty quickly. The turn is the Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Mongoose thinks for 5-10 seconds and calls. I fire once more on the T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] river. Mongoose thinks for a few seconds, and to my disgust, energetically raises. Is a 3-bet out of order here?

I don't know who mongoose is and I don't particularly care. Instant 3bet and not even close. If he has KJ then god bless america.

I've 3bet/folded on almost this exact same board before(ATxJx /w no flush possible). I wouldn't recommend it here, because I need to know more about villain in order to make this play, Given the description, I 3bet/call.

I have to think TT, T2, T5 is more likely than KJ (or 34) here.

Thanks for the replies. I certainly would've 3-bet without hesitation here against a complete unknown. This man seemed to pride himself on being so loose and sucking out. "That's why they call me the Mongoose," he'd say and laugh after giving another player an awful beat. In this situation I just wasn't sure, because he wasn't raising/bluffing without a hand, just fishing up a storm (he only called me down when flopping two pair in the previous hand I mentioned). And just because he's super loose doesn't mean he's a moron; I'm sure he had an idea of what kind of hands I was playing. I did indeed 3-bet him; he asked me if I had a straight, then 4-balled me in the face. I sheepishly called and he showed down K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I understand that we need to maximize but hands like these make me wonder if I need to go with my gut sometimes.

I used to play 60-120 with that guy and he claimed he was a pro(ie, has no job and lives upstairs). Now I see why he hasn't been around and why he is playing 20-40.

Personally I dont mind a 3 bet on the river nor do I mind a call. In close spots like these, look for the tell and go with your gut.

Going with your gut folding to the 4bet.

If you raise Mongoose, you'll only make him mad. Mongoose never raises the river without the nuts.
