amazon.com books taxable if shipped to europe?

just bought a few books from the us site to have them shipped in the european union as they were quite cheaper than through the uk site and i was wondering if i will be paying tax when they arrive(hence cancelling the price difference)...anybody had a similar experience?...ty

Not on books, I'm pretty sure.

good...ty...but then why buy from the uk site as you can get them about 30% cheaper from the us?..shouldn't amazon have figured that?

They don't set the exchange rate.

Doesn't depends on the tax legislation of your country? Or with the European union has this changed?

If you import anything over the value of £18 to the UK it's subject to import customs/tax, or £36 if it's marked as a gift. Plus there'll be hefty shipping prices to pay if it's coming from the US, not to mention will take much longer. Amazon isn't the best place to buy books imo, I always use one of the PlayTraders on play.com as their prices also include delivery

I'm in The Netherlands, and most of my Amazon.com orders came in a box sent from Germany, so no taxes.

Only once a box was sent directly from US, and I had to pay tax for it.

I'd be surprised if you're charged anything on books. I've bought lots of books from US suppliers, including Amazon.com (I live in the UK) and never had to pay any import duties. (Software's a different matter, but books should be fine.)
