Madden vs Morgan
 

Joe Morgan gets a lot of crap for saying dumb things (I am guilty of this). Madden gets some crap, but it seems more accepted, and almost humorous (at least to me, my friends, and posters on the board). Both are paid to be knowledgeable about their job and a sport they played, but why does it seem that people get much more upset at Joe Morgan?
Is it because he is smarter (If my life was on the line and I had to pick between the two who would score higher on an IQ test, I would definitely pick Joe Morgan (but still take the under for the combined score)), more stubborn/blind, takes himself so seriously, and is so 'matter of fact' about his statements?

Madden says very little of substance, IMO. He doesn't have that many misconceptions about the game of football. Furthermore, baseball is a much more rigidly statistical game.

Joe Morgan is very emphatic about the wrong things he says - and they're demonstrably untrue.

Madden is fine, usually on point when he actually talks about something useful (not often).

Madden tends to say some rather stupid things, but his analysis of football seems to be a bit more insightful than Morgan's analysis of baseball IMO.

lol you think Morgan's IQ is higher than Madden's?

I guess I never really thought of it, but that would be really sad. Morgan just called Shea Hillenbrand Sean twice in like 30 seconds tonight. He also re-iterated that Jose Reyes is "exciting" and "consistent." He said "Sean Hillenbrand hasn't been as consistently exciting as Jose Reyes this season."

John Madden was a great head coach in a highly strategic sport.
so he has that credibility.

madden won me over a few years ago when he coined the obvious but true phrase (at least i think he did) "that's why we play the games" as a counter to all the analysis/assumptions/predictions in sports media

Madden was a coach and Madden tends to have more gaffes than flaout stupid comments.
Madden seems to water down a lot of his comments to appeal to the masses.
