Is Memphis worth seeing?
 

Going on tour with a band for a couple days and trying to decide whether to fly out of Dallas or wait a day and see Memphis. Never been and I have no idea if its worth checking out.

Thoughts?

If it's a weekend, sure, check out the blues clubs on Beale Street.

During the week, not so much--but Tunica is only a 30-minute drive away.

I don't think it's that worthwhile.
Weekend is better of course, but even then it's pretty meh.

If you're an Elvis freak or something then it's a bit better since you can go see Graceland.
Or you can swing by a quick-ish tour of Sun Studios where Elvis and Johnny Cash and others first got their starts.

Beale Street is over-rated as a tourist attraction imo but at least it's something to do.
There's some history there of course and during the right weekend the blues stuff can be decent.

Whether or not it's 'worth seeing' kind of depends on your own interests of course.

holy crap. I knew it was hot up there but that's ridiculous for that area.

I looked into it further and it appears the humidity is only in the 20s and 30s most of that time.
So not sure if 105 with 30% humidity will work out better than your regular Memphis summer day of 95 with 90% humidity but I suspect it would feel closeish.

When I was in LV and it was 116 with about 5% humidity or less I thought it actually felt closeish to Memphis 97 degrees with 90% humidity which I had just left.

Anyway, Memphis will be setting a ton of records this week it appears.
The record for Aug 13 is 100, Aug 14 is 101, Aug 15 is 103.

I definitely would not be going out of my way to visit Memphis this week.
If it's a bit later this month when it is cooler, and if it's on a weekend, then a visit might go a bit better.

edit - I see that Wed when it's 106 degrees they are anticipating humidity in the 40's.
Good God.

And to think that if I was still living up there I would be outside killing myself with 2 different soccer teams.

I'm proud of Memphis and think there's some cool things to do/places to see.... but it is friggin HOT out right now. I heard the Gibson guitar factory is pretty neat to visit.

Besides that I can't think of anything I'd really suggest to a visitor unless you want to marry Elvis or sumthin.
