Java Runtime environment

hello, im a complete computer noob
trying to clean up some space on my computer, and when i open add/remove programs and sort it by size it goes

Microsoft office (which i need )
Poker tracker (which i need)

and then the next 4 things are 'Jave runtime environment 5.0 update 11'
.... update 6,8,1 also

can i delete these or do i need them?

also, what about the program 'Urge' which i have but i have no idea what it is

are there other unnec. things i should be deleting from here? i obviously dont want to delete things i need / screw things up

any help is greatly appreciated,
thanks

Re: Java Runtime environment

Delete all of those Java Runtime Environments, then download the lastest one, version 6.0.

Urge is a crappy music player, you can delete it.

Post a screenshot of your add/remove programs window.

Re: Java Runtime environment

You should uninstall everything McAfee, Urge, Wildtangent web driver.

Do you use AOL instant messenger or Gaim? If you use Gaim, you should uninstall anything with Viewpoint in its name (manager, toolbar, media player).

Re: Java Runtime environment

why do i not need mcafee? isnt that good for virus scans? i run that every week or so, although it like never finds anything

also, can i delete firefox 2.0.0.5 since i have 2.0.0.6, or do i need to keep it? i dont want to lose access to the web or anything lol

i dont think ive ever used quicktime, can i get rid of that?

Re: Java Runtime environment

McAfee is a big resource hog. It will bog down your computer.
The multiple firefox instances in add/remove is a bug with firefox. If you try to uninstall 2.0.0.5, it will probably say something like "file not found, removing from add/remove". So no harm in doing that.

You probably use quicktime plug-ins when you watch videos on the web. I would uninstall it and then download something called "quicktime alternative".

Is your computer running slower now than when you bought it? Did you start this thread because your hard drive is full?

Download HijackThis and post your log here. Do not fix anything yet.

How full is your hard drive?
