New York New york Hotel,Las Vegas

Hi All,

New poster so apologies if I'm breaking any rules by asking this.I've read the stickies and followed the search instructions but couldn't find anything relevant to this particular hotel.

My girlfriend and I are visiting Vegas for a second time in early September. We're both Irish.Last time we stayed in Excaliber. The accomodation seemed fine to me and I played a good bit of 2-4 limit, just to get used to first time casino play.Seemed to be full of fishy tourists.Great.

This time we're staying in the nearby NY NY (GF and I thought nightlife was great there last time). My question is whats the poker room quality there? Also,Is there any point in looking for a poker room rate (I plan on playing 6-8 hours a day)?

Any tips for good shows in September would be very much appreciated too.

Thanks for your help in advance all

It's connected by bridge to MGM which has a very nice poker oom (has lots of NL, some 4-8, etc). Plus NYNY is a very nice hotel - you'll enjoy staying there (be sure to check out the steak house!).

I'm also Irish and going to Vegas in spt with the girlfriend. We had the NYNY booked until I learned there was no Poker Room so we just cancelled and booked the MGM instead. You can cancel the NYNY and get a full refund so I'd suggest that.

He can only do this if he booked straight through the hotel, and not through a third party.

Not having a poker room in your hotel is no big deal. Just cross the street to MGM.

In three of the last four Vegas trips I have taken, I didn't even play at my hotel's poker room. I didn't plan it that way it just happened.

Nice irish pub in the NYNY, be sure to get a pint there!

It will be no big deal to keep the reservation at NYNY. The MGM is so huge that it will probably be closer for you to walk from your room at NYNY to the MGM poker room than if you had a room in the grand tower at the MGM. The walk way from NYNY will pretty much dump you right into the poker room.

1.) Go downtown to the Western. Watch all the people there. Best show in town. Trust me on that.

2.) Go to the Flamino/O'sheas area around 3am. Watch all the pimps and gang members chasing the hoo....err escorts on Las Vegas Bl.

New York NY is much nicer than the Excalibur, and the MGM is much nicer than NYNY. However, for the dollar, I'd just listen to the other posters and stay at NYNY and cross the bridge to MGM. Gallagher's Steakhouse has awesome aged steaks at a reasonable price, and make sure to save room for the butter toffee pudding (their signature dessert). They also offer some different kinds of raw oysters, if you like that sort of thing. Sportsbook is small, but is right next to ESPN Sportszone (good place to watch games). You can also find table games with lower minimums than at MGM. They lack a good buffet, but you're in close enough proximity to MGM's or Excalibur's, if you're in a buffet kind of mood.

AlaskaGal makes a good point -- the walk from NYNY to the MGM Poker room is probably the same as it is from a room in the Grand Tower, and from NYNY you can just as easily cross over to Excalibur.
