Help with splitting odd chip in O/8

I am a fairly new dealer working at the Commerce, and something came up the other week while splitting a pot between either 2 high - 1 low / 1 high - 2 low hands, that made me think I was doing something wrong. Say there are 67 chips in the pot after the river, there are either 1 high 2 low hands, or 1 low 2 high hands, you will have 2 stacks of 20 chips and then 2 stacks of 13 in front with 1 odd chip on top, the 1 high or 1 low hand gets paid first, but what happens with that odd chip? Does it go to which ever stack is getting quarted? I know between 1 high and 1 low the high always gets it, and then between 2 highs or 2 lows the player closest left of the button gets it, but I'm not 100% sure where that odd chip goes before you pay either the 1 high or 1 low hand while its stacked on top of the smaller stack in front. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

[/ QUOTE ]Simon - Never, to the best of my knowledge. Exactly how extra chips are awarded for getting quartered or sixthed varies from casino to casino, but the high stack always gets the extra chip.

You should ask a Commerce floor person to be sure, or if you don't want to ask yourself, have a friend ask a floor person for you.

A dealer's handbook probably would not help you, since the rules vary from casino to casino. But on this particular point I have never seen a variance. The odd chip always goes to the high, at least in my experience.

i have also heard that odd chip goes to the high... if two highs then based on relative location to the dealer button.

Online the high hand always gets the extra chip.

Divide the pot in half. Any extra chip goes in the high half.

Pay the high player(s). If splitting the high half results in an extra chip the player with the worst (earlier) position gets the extra chip. Pay the low player(s) in the same manner.

I've occasionally seen casinos use suits as opposed to position when deciding who gets the extra chip. This is a bad idea IMHO.

If there are side pots treat each one individually. At no point lump side pots and the main pot together as it might affect the number of chips a player should receive.

What chaos said. So if it's a $50 pot, and SB has the high and the low, BB has the high, and BTN has the low:
High pot is $25, SB gets $13, BB gets $12.
Low pot is $25, SB gets $13, BTN gets $12.
The general exception is for a wheel or other identical hands, where the pot is split evenly. So if a $50 pot was split between two wheels (neither of whom had a better high), each receives $25.
