Double News Chopper Crash: Suspect Guilty of Negligent Homicide?

So it you're living under a rock, two news helicopters collided in Phoenix, killing all 4 aboard, while covering a high speed chase. There is now talk of charging the suspect with negligent homicide in the deaths of the chopper crews.

Not sure how I feel about this. I'm leaning towards, "That's [censored] ridiculous," however, I can see the other side of it.

Thoughts?

The pilots must have been violating code by flying so close to each other. Can't blame the suspect for that.

Just saw on the news that, in general, chopper pilots have a lot of leeway in covering breaking news; they are left to their own responsibility to avoid unsafe situations.

I think your gut feeling was absolutely right. It's [censored] ridiculous. God help you if anyone slips and falls while the press is hunting you down for news.

Excellent point. If a newshound is chasing a drunken Lindsay Lohan crashes his car and dies, is she then guilty of negligent homicide in addition to DUI?

Ridiculous.

Nutty, its not even news just something fun to show the viewers. lets not confuse these people with brave journalists doing something important.

I'm afraid I laughed.

If anyone, the TV stations should be charged with negligent homicide/reckless endangerment

There was a case similar to this not too long ago:
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/st...E8?OpenDocument

Cliffs: Shoplifter tried to make an escape through a wooded area. Manhunt ensued. A cop who was in a different area was called in to help. As he was speeding to the crime scene, he hit a tractor trailer and died.

Jury convicted shoplifter of second degree murder in the death of the cop.
