1st live win - brag post

So after my biggest online score on Tuesday night, I headed off to my local casino to play their $70 Wednesday tourney.

I play this probably every 2nd or 3rd week on average, but have never seemed to have a great deal of luck with it. My previous best was a 6th.

Anyways, I got a nice double up early (hit the nut straight with AQ & stacked a guy who flopped top 2... standard) and chipped up with little resistance in the first hour (had around 6500, starting stack of 2500). Down to about 35 runners at this point (from 55 starters).

Lost with A9 vs a shorties K6 to take me down to 5K, but then doubled through the same guy when my KT made a straight vs his AJ. From there, I chipped up by stealing & re-stealing to 16K but generally wasn't very active.

I had a touch above avg heading into the FT (15.5K). There were a couple of shorties who were eliminated straight away, and we were down to 7 handed, with me having probably the 2nd or 3rd shortest stack.

At this point, I decided there was no point hanging in to cash (6th paid $150) since it was a reasonably top-heavy payout. So I raised nearly every hand. I chipped up from under 20K to over 50K... without a showdown! I was now chips leader. I couldn't believe how tight-weak these guys were. It was a pretty cool feeling to have guys disgusted when I raised. But no one took a stand against it.

In the end, I won a hand I shouldn't have 3 handed (Q3 > 99... live poker is rigged, obv), then won with 44 vs A6 HU after he hit an ace on the flop, then I hit a 4 on the river. This was after I'd taken a bit of a hit (and made an incorrect laydown which I was mad at myself for), but that hand gave me a 3 - 1 chip lead & I wrapped it up when QT > his KJ on a QQJ flop.

So all up, $655 for my efforts + entry to a $560 satellie into the $3K main event.

For the week, I'm currently +$4K, so life is good. Not exactly balla like some, but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
