Whadya think of this?

UTG is a 80/40 maniac, Seat 4 is solid 25/20.

Am I just a maniac or is there some merit in my play?

If this hand is even close to standard for you then you are just a maniac.

Preflop capping is in my opinion a mistake, but not a huge one. Having capped, the flop is great for you and you can go ahead and bet. You're in trouble when raised on the flop, but you can call for your weak backdoor draws and your set draw. But when the turn bricks off, anything besides check/fold is pretty bad here.

Every street besides river is bad and Hero shouldn't have been there under any circumstances. That's fairly easy to see.

So... you cap a possible hijack iso 3-bet by a solid player OOP with 77. I guess you can often use the maniac to put pressure on the solid player at some point if he deserves his nickname... but this is never going to be easy to play and you have to be able to get away from the hand if things look bad for you (i.e., solid player raises a protected pot on a paintless flop despite your pf cap).

Instead, you optimistically assume that:

a) Solid player has a draw + you're ahead of maniac

or

b) Maniac will raise a worse hand and push out solid player's overpair

or

c) "I have the best hand, suckas... welcome to value town" despite all appearances to the contrary

and donk the turn and call another protected pot raise by solid player getting about 14:1 I think. I can understand why you might have one last go in the hope that everything goes perfectly and you win a big pot (don't necessarily agree, but can at least see where you're coming from)... but the parlay you'd need is a stretch and calling the raise is just plain bad -- you're never ahead and you'd need to net 9 bets on the river to pay for your call.

Yahtzee! Set on the river. Ship it.

You put yourself in a difficult spot pf and burned through a ton of sklansky bucks post but still dragged the pot. Say a prayer to the poker gods and thank them by not doing it again is my humble suggestion.
