Question For Guitar Players
 

I was thinking of getting a Tascam Portable Guitar Trainer ($150 & $25 for an AC Adapter), which loops whatever part of a song you want to learn. It also slows down a song up to 50% without changing the pitch. My brother said he thinks there's software that can slow down a song ever more, but he doesn't know the name of the company/s. I was hoping you guys could recommend whatever it is that you use, or have used.

For what it's worth, if you convert your mp3 to wav format, you can open it in windows' sound recorder, decrease the speed by 100%, and then save and re-encode it as another mp3.

Audacity (an open source audio program) has this function. You'll need to install a pitch adjustment plugin and manually decrease tempo and increase pitch, but it will be free. Commercial DJ software and CD turntables can do this with one less step, but they cost money.

You should be fine without the portable trainer.

For the record I use Ableton Live for my musical creativity.

FWIW, Audacity (which was previously mentioned) does not require the installation of a pitch adjustment plugin -- it comes with the base installation. It should be labeled as "Adjust Tempo" or something like that under the Effects menu.

If you do only that (half the speed), the pitch would be an octave lower.

i just started using best practice 2. its free and fantastic. can change speed from basically 0% to 200%, pitch correct +- half 12 semitones, and has a great looping function. check it out.

Get guitar pro. Its has the songs tabbed and you can changed it the speed the tab is played to you to watever you want. GP basically taught be how to play
