Hitting a wall
 

I'm kinda unsure if this goes in B&M but I only really have this problem at the B&M casinos, so if the mods feel it should be moved then so be it...

Anyway, It seems that when I'm playing $1/$2 NL in various cardrooms (mostly in Tunica and STL) and I get up a buyin or two I hit a wall. The last 6 or 7 times I've played I've gotten my orginal $200 or $300 up to $500 to $700 I can't get anything else going. The last time I played I sat in a $200 max got up to around $600 and was determined to reach the $1000 mark but 5 1/2 hours later I cashed out $607. I would love to blame it on the cards but since it happens all the time I don't think I can. I think I may have a problem playing deepstacked or as a bigstack, but I'm unsure since there usually isn't alot of other big stacks at the table.

I'd love to hear you guy's thoughts on where I'm going wrong or what I can do to improve my game in this area. I usually just play Tight ABC poker and rarely bluff becuase as we all know harldy anyone can lay down anything at a typical $1/$2 game.

Loss of concentration and/or the will to win?

Other players aware that your a good player?


Those would be three reasons off the top of my head.

Wait. What? You're making $60 an hour at 1/2 live and are bummed you can't make more?

What do you mean the Will to Win?

I have noticed a similar trend but I also give it back and walk out break even. I have been blaming the cards because I will be ahead when I bet or call and get outdrawn or my draws won't come. Been going on for a month. Bankroll is way down so I have to do something before i am busto.

You are probably playing overconfident, big stack poker... making bad plays with the mindset that you can "outplay" any of the free money fish at the table.

You need to play the same game that got you up 2 buy-ins.

Other players learn to read you and thus play better against you as time goes on?

I wouldn't worry about it much. It's not like your getting stuck 600 every time and spending hours never getting even.

I would rather have $600 wins than win $2000 one night and lose $1400 the next.

Yeah I tell myself that alot, but as any poker player, I want to get better and I feel as if my game is lacking in this area. If there are any others that have had this problem how did you overcome it? Are there any tips to improve my game in this area.

Whenever I am determined to win at a poker table I usually lose. I think it is because I am trying to win pots I have no business winning. I will win some but lose many.

Another note, a while ago I noticed that I would do well early in long sessions but do poorly towards the end. I attributed it to my astute opponents learning my style and that I was too predictable. I don't know the quality of your 1/2 NL games but it is possible players are picking up on your TAG tendencies. I have learned to change gears and to read my opponents tendencies better - so now more often than not, my play at the end of sessions shows positive returns.

I've actually thought about that and it could very well be the case. I guess I just figured that most of the $1/$2 players weren't good enough or were too drunk to pick up on my style or tendencies. I also don't consider myself to be all that good so I guess I attributed some of it to my inexperience and lack of skill.
