Beginner Chess Books
So I'm interested in getting better at chess, but right now I am extremely terrible. Any recommendations for a good book for a beginner? Thanks,

Re: Beginner Chess Books
The Chessmaster 9000 program, while not strictly a book, is very good for beginners IMHO.

Re: Beginner Chess Books
Comprehensive Chess Course vol. I & II by Lev Alburt. Super easy to read. Has all the critical stuff you need to learn to get started. Costs ~$40 for both books. Alburt later expanded the series with 5 or so other books which are also excellent. This will give you a nice place to start once you finish vol. I & II.

Re: Beginner Chess Books
Logical Chess: Move by Move by Irving Chernev
The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played by Irving Chernev Yasser Sierwan's series: Winning Chess Openings, Winning Chess Tactics, etc. These should get you off to a pretty good start. |
