Ruling: Button not moved
 

You post the BB and play the hand out.

The next hand you throw out the small blind and turn away to order food or whatever. When you turn back you see that everyone has folded to a late-middle position player who has raised. The guy to your right (who should be the button this hand but has posted the small blind) is considering and the dealer tells you that you need two more chips to complete the big blind. You throw the extra chips out then immediately grab them back and say that the button has not been moved, and that you were big blind last hand.

The guy who raised says there has been too much action to declare a misdeal.

Ruling?

I didn't want to hold up the game, so I just tossed the guy the two chips, but I was curious so I asked the floor about it later. His answer made me wonder how the next hand/s would be handled.

Substantial action has occured, hand plays. Players must point out a button discrepancy before any action takes place in the hand.

Yeah, I agreed with that part. Another guy at the table told me I'd probably be forced to put in two extra chips, which I didn't think was the case.

My question to the floorman was, if I had not accepted the action (wasn't willing to pony up the big blind) what would he rule? He said they'd take the money to the side (I assume he meant both blinds since the other blind finally said, "yeah, I should be button!"), check the cameras, playing on in the meantime. If it turned out the button had not been moved, they'd return the chips to the blinds, meaning the PFR would get only his chips back.

I guess that would mean the PFR gets screwed because his raise would only pick up one small blind minus $1.

Ha, this same thing happened to me at the bellagio. I had yet to look at my hand, I said something about the button not moving and because there was action already the hand had to play. However, I woke up to aces and proceeded to get them snapped for the 5th consecutive time playing 30/60. Fun.

The next hand goes as normal. You post the SB.

This has happened a few times to me, but nothing to really get alarmed about. You'd be suprised at how many would go to the mat for that 1/2 a SB, holding up the game for god knows how long.

Good move in keeping the game moving.

If it happens again soon, in the same down, then I might say something.
