Check made 7 on 5th? $15/$30

Do I need to check this? I always feel that checking when they catch too badly screams my hand out. I would have checked maybe if they hadn't both caught bad or checked if they guy made an 8 to c/r or something.

I have sweat these games a bit before.

I would check here. Smart players will understand why you have checked but fortunately you are not playing against smart Razz players here...

I think checking looks too obvious.

Would we ever consider checking if we had A5 down? I know I'd be glad to take down the pot in that case so may as well do it here too.

That's nice, but wouldn't we like to win some more money out of our near lock?

(the reason you bet anyway is that the 4 card 8 might still call.)

Depends on whether or not they'll continue drawing to an 8. If they're fishy I bet it and let them chase, if they're reasonably solid then I'd check.

I would certainly check this hand on 5th to let the other two catch up hoping they catch a card on 6th that either makes or gives them a draw to an 8-low, which is obviously worse than your low. OTOH, taking down this pot 5th Street isn't that bad is it?

I must admit, I did read some of the other posts/comments on this hand and I'm shocked! I'm only playing the micro-limits ($0.25/$0.50). Betting out 5th street in this situation where I play would normally get at least one of the two villains to call and chase down an 8-low. However, are our opponents really that fishy at $15/$30 where they would:

A) Actually bet if Hero checked on 5th?
or
B) Not realize that Hero's check is way too obvious that he pretty much has a lock on the low and possibly call bets on 6th and 7th?

If so, can somebody please stake me a few thousand bucks? LOL.

Seat Four pretty much has to be perfect in the hole to peel Fourth, right? That means the Eight is probably drawing rough because he didn't re-raise on Third, and there aren't that many Deuces left in the deck. He isn't going to call anything. Seat Four's hand went South and he isn't going to call anything.

Unless somebody makes a perfect draw with the free card, I don't even see how you can get another bet in later if you check, since your hand is obviously best here, and it would suck to let somebody backdoor a wheel or six perfect when the pot was yours for the taking.

I would just bet and take what's in the middle.

Well seat 4 cold called a raise on 3rd so he's likely perfect in the hole, and was clearly priced in to peel 4th. Before you make a fancy check here tho, ask yourself "Why exactly do we want the opps to catch up?" The idea is that they should make a decent but 2nd best hand (an 8 or 9 in this case) and then call on 6th and 7th if we brick out on 6th. Problem is both of them showed a good hand on 3rd st (EP raise, cold call of our 2-bet) and if they catch good enough to call a bet on 6th then they most likely are getting correct pot odds to do so vs. your rough 7.

So like Steve says, take it down now, or let seat 6 chase you for two cards if he's got a perfect 8 draw and is so inclined. In this case, he has paired 8's and won't put in another dime.
