Re: Casino Montreal

It is a bit confusing, but I went to the "new" poker room at the Bingo hall on June 2 for their Saturday night tournament. Basically, it appears that the Poker Room is now its own entity and not "officially" part of the Mohawk Casino.

The Bingo Palace is about 2 km down the road from the actual casino. It is a large building that houses a bingo hall area, about 100 slot machines and the new poker room. It looks like they are still refurbishing the place; it is rather bare bones and has no restaurant food and no alcohol. I’m sure that they will be changing that in the near future.

Anyways, there is a small area dedicated to poker. On this night, they had 2 – 3 cash games going; I think two 1 / 2 tables and a 2 / 4. All three were full. The tourney was a $120 buy-in and started at 7pm. It was the first one since they re-opened and there were about 30 players. The dealers were obviously new and a little nervous. Many of the players knew each other but were friendly to us new-comers.

I hope that they can grow the business and get attendance up. The poker manager I talked to seemed to be driven to get the word out about the place and develop it. I may actually go again this upcoming weekend (June 30) as I’d like to play one more tourney before I head to Vegas next week.

I can provide an update next week.

Was the rake bearable?

I honestly don't know... I did not play the cash game as the tables were full. I played the tourney and then drove back to the Mohawk casino for some table games.

I played regularly here when the room was at the casino. I've been to the new room once since thay have moved, it was a Saturday night.

Here's some highlight of the changes...

1. New manager... very nice, less tolerant of some obnoxious behaviour from some regulars that would have been overlooked previously. Believed he has worked at both TS and Seneca.

2. New dealers... only one dealer came over from the casino with the move, the rest are new hires, but some clearly had experience, none were terrible (that I observed, one was a little slow) but expect they will improve with experience.[bold]Note:[/bold] they now keep their own tips... no more pooling... this should help motivate them.

3. Rake... NL the drop is 10% max $5... limit may be $4 but not sure. JP drop still $1 but they don't take it from the SB like they used to... now they wait for the flop. no flop no drop in both cases. The 5/10NL payed time... someone said $5 per half hour which would be an amazing deal IMHO.

4. They're running promos(or were running them, may still be)... flush or higher showed down got you a ticket to drom in a drum... someone won a 42" LCD the night I was there.

Overall I'd say it's an great improvement...

I'll be there Sat, june 30 playing 2/5nl... blue OCC hat... sup bro
