I need to find a hobby - know of any?
 

I just broke up with my gf. I notice now that I don't have much else in my life which means I have too much time to dwell on the pain. I think maybe I should find something to occupy my time like a hobby. Any ideas?



On another note - I think that my life is unbalanced. Before I met her, I was generally unhappy with my life, and now I'm back to that state. I'm wondering if to be mentally/spritually healthy for a relationship, I should be happy with my life in general first. I'm not quite sure how to go about that. I think I distilled my concept of happiness to having 3 parts of my life fulfilled: partner, friends, satisfying career. But now I wonder if an interesting job is simply a way to pass time if you have enough money? And that helping others mayb be what is satisfying and provides meaning in life. Maybe some volunteer work would make me feel better about my life. Any thoughts on how to go about making ones life more balanced and fulfilling?

To answer the title question, Chess. its pretty addicting though, for certain personality types.


The body of your post doesn't really jive with the thread title though. maybe you should be looking for counseling and not a hobby.

Billiards/Pool

Highly introspective game - combines deliberation, repetition, the mind's eye, physical skill - pretty much has it all and TOTALLY addicting

Good time to start exercising.
Doing sports will both get you in shape, take your mind of the break-up, and generally improve life quality.

The other part you mention about doing some volunteer work.... Well, try it out. The absolute worst thing that can happen is you decide that you don't feel you are gaining anything from it, but then at least you have still done some good for other people.

I am at a similar point in life OP. I play poker atm, but I've considered part time work, a new career, volunteer work, traveling... You name it.

I randomally typed into google, "What job should I get?", and it came up with all these people advising me not to get a job. And to search for the meaning of life to me.

I don't know what I'm doing. Had one of my worst downswings ever today, which is clearly influencing my judgement. But surely we all have to seek out a life that is fulfilling to us?
