Atlantic City Cab question

I was in a cab around 3:30 AM Sunday morning and the cab charged me $15. I asked him wasn't the maximum he could charge is $11, and he said, no, not at this hour. (He had started the meter over again). I assume I was taken, correct? I did not give him a tip.

I have never taken a cab in AC and have not felt scammed. Avoid them! Take the jitney or walk the boardwalk..but if you have to get in a cab, immediately say "turn on the f'ing meter!"

I usually take a jitney, but I had to catch a bus, and in the middle of the night, sometimes the jitneys are full or don't come for half an hour at a time.

Did you only travel within AC? If so, you were ripped off. If not, you weren't.

Why make sure they turn it on immediately? Wouldn't that make your time charge start sooner?

They normally try to not use the meter at all. Then at the destination, [edit- politically incorrect name] sizes you up and tells you it's $20, or whatever for the $5 fare.. So you, the dispatcher and the taxman all get f'ed.

I was in the city limits, and I knew the cabbie was wrong. What is my recourse if it every happens again, refuse to pay him more than $11 and have him call the cops on me if he thinks he is right?
