What is a Scramble?

I am new to the Golf forum and find it all interesting. One thing though is just what is a scramble? I have tried googling the term but the entries tend to be about word scrambles and even when it is about golf scrambles the term 'scramble' is not explained.

Please help.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

PS! Combining the words 'golf' + 'scramble' in google yields good results...

Re: What is a Scramble?

When you play a tourney, you can have 2 man or 4 man (woman) scrambles. You all hit your tee shots and pick the best ball. Every team member will hit their next ball from that position. Continue the format for approach shots and putting...
