Please explain why casino\'s think this is cheating?

I got a job as a casino recently and they are showing us a video on cheating techniques to look out for. I think it' s called structuring.

It is when the table max is say 5k. You give 2 of your other friends 5k and you all bet the same amount in a game like craps. So you are basically betting 15k.

Why would this be cheating?
Why would the casino's care? Seems like it's awesome for them, they have 3 high rollers instead of 1. I asked the question today but the only answer they gave me was they can win 3 times as much money, but I didnt think that made sense because they are still losing.

Any ideas? Is is only because they dont like high variance, you think they would not care at all.

That's bizarre. I have no idea. Variance is the only thing I can think of.

Just a guess:

It may not be cheating in and of itself, but coordinated team play is something the casino wants you to be concerned about.

Yeah I get that but I mean team play isnt really bad. They are not cheating they just want to bet more money.

I understand if it's blackjack or something and you are counting and stuff, where team play could be bad.

But why would a casino care if you are betting more.
It's harrah's if that makes a difference. Seems like they have been doing some dumb stuff recently.

Check the IRS regs on "structuring". Basically, businesses are required to report any cash transactions of more than 10k in a 24-hour period. By betting in the manner described, the player is avoiding making a reportable 10k bet by distributing the cash to confederates at the table. I believe structuring is a felony and any discussion of how to do it is a crime.

This is funny when I played blackjack in Casino Amsterdam at the airport The game was set up specifically so you could do things like this. Strange indeed

Well, if they'd want people bet 15k the table max would be set to 15k...

Yeah it's because they have calculated a table limit for a reason. They don't want people going over the table limit. If the casino took a massive, unexpected & untolerable loss it might cause problems with liquid capital etc, and heads would roll. Probably yours.

However, it's not cheating, and should be dealt with a little more friendly. You want these people to carry on gambling, after all.

It's not cheating the casino; it's a violation of the federal currency transaction reporting laws, which require all cash transactions of over 10k to be reported to the Department of Treasury here in the Land of the Free.

Sounds more like they're worried about someone playing a Martingale system where they double bets every loser until they win. Having 3 guys lets them go 3 times the table limit.
